War against plastics, Nigerian youth sponsors program.

A young Nigerian innovator that has decided to make a difference in the world to start the war against plastic waste .  simple walk on any beach, anywhere, and the plastic waste spectacle is present. All over the world the statistics are ever growing, staggeringly. Tons of plastic debris (which by definition are waste that can vary in size from large containers, fishing nets to microscopic plastic pellets or even particles) is discarded every year, everywhere, polluting lands, rivers, coasts, beaches, and oceans.Plastics are integral part of society and have varied application. Plastics are composed of a network of molecular monomers bound together to form macromolecules. There are increasing concerns due to non degradability and generation of toxic gases on combustion during incineration. Due to fabrication of desired shape colour and specification convenient to customers there is increasing application in packaging, agriculture, automobiles and biomedical. They are indispensable to the modern generation due to development in information technology, intelligent and smart packaging system. Efforts are in progress for development of efficient and precise conversation of renewable raw materials into innovative polymeric product through recent technologies which are superior in terms of performance, environmental and cost perspectives. In rivers and at coastal regions the marine pollution is increasing at a faster rate due to indiscriminate disposal by the consumers. R&D studies are now centred for investigating whether consumption of plastic debris by marine organism translates into toxic exposures for people who consume seafood with particular relevance to plasticisers, stabilizers, heavy metals viz phthalates, BPA, lead cadmium, methyl mercury. Biological effects from pollution are linked with resulting economic effects and losses. A cornerstone of sustainable development is the establishment of affordable, effective and truly sustainable waste management practices in developing countries.Plastic waste management is a critical issue. Over 300 million metric tons of plastics are produced in the world annually and about fifty percent of this volume is for disposal applications, product that are discarded within a year of their purchase. It is the boon and bane of our times. Although there are multiple uses, its waste and the resultant pollution clogs up our rivers, oceans, lands and adversely affects the biodiversity. We need to plan for disposal of new synthetic product, implants etc which have completed their shelf life. In future polymeric adhesives and implants are to be developed which address total joint replacement features for ... Read more
features for patients with varied complications and age. It should be robust, biocompatible with surface treatment options to allow for reduced friction and wear throughout the implant life. In a CPCB supported study we have found that the soil and ground water quality may be affected in dumpsite areas.

The International Organisation for standardization [ISO] Organisation for Economic Cooperation [OECD] and development, British specification [BS] Indian Standards [IS] need to be implemented for appropriate application and safe disposal. Globally steps are being taken for development of environmental friendly, innovative plastic items using the concept of green chemistry and also with safe disposal methods. Integrated waste management practices are to be encouraged, strengthened and supported with state of art scientific applications.

Motorists lament as N470 Million Niger bridge collapses

Motorists and commuters were stranded for over four hours on Friday following the collapse of a bridge in Dangana in the Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.

The people condemned the government for abandoning the structure which had reportedly gulped millions of naira.

Findings show that the bridge contract was awarded in January, 2017 at the cost of N470m by the state government to ease the suffering of motorists and commuters in the community.

Northern City News gathered on Sunday that the project contractor, Soject Nigeria Limited, abandoned the site following the failure of the government to pay the balance of N77m.

A driver, Adamu Lapai, told newsmen that the government was playing politics with the bridge, noting that the failure to complete the facility was causing untold hardship to the people.

“Government is extremely insensitive to the plight and the suffering of the people. If government had paid the contractor the balance of the contract sum as at last year, he would have completed the bridge by now,” he explained.

“Because of the forthcoming general elections, we learnt that the government has released N77m for the completion of the project. Honestly speaking, if they fail to complete that bridge before the election, God knows they will not get one vote from Gulu, Lapai and other communities,” Lapai added.

The motorist, who spent over four hours on the bridge, added that “There was no financial commitment on the side of the government and that was what made the work to stop thereby inflicting suffering on those using the bridge.”

The Village Head of Dangana community, Yanusa Abdullahi, said that motorists and commuters were going through difficully on the bridge, noting that farmers could no longer take their produce to the market.

“People of my community and others that make use of the bridge are suffering a lot; at times they find it difficult to take their farm produce to nearby villages or towns to sell due to the collapse of the bridge.

“Without that bridge, farmers cannot go to the market to sell their farm produce. We are appealing to the state government to speed up the construction to ameliorate the suffering of the local farmers of Dangana,” Abdullahi stated.

He said the temporary diversion created by the construction company was not helping matters as vehicles were getting stranded inside the river.

The Project Manager, Suject Construction Ltd., Milad Jarbanda, gave the assurance that the bridge would be completed in 10 days.

39 year old mother of five declares bid for Presidency (photos)

A female presidential aspirant under the National Interest Party, Mrs. Eunice Atuejide, on Friday made her declaration in Abuja, noting that Nigeria was not developing because of the “problem of vested interests”.

Atuejide, a mother of five children from Enugu State, said the country needed “level-headed people who will not focus on any group or vested interests but who will pursue our National Interest with all the tools available to them.”

The presidential aspirant, who accepted that she was gripped with the “fear of the unknown”, promised a transparent and accountable administration if Nigerians elected her into power.

The 39-year-old said, “Have we stopped to look behind the curtains to see what is keeping us at a standstill in Nigeria? It is not just the lack of education, blueprints or leadership. We need level-headed people who will not focus solely on any group’s vested interest.

“In offering to lead the country, my administration will not focus solely on the interests of any person, tribe, religion or ethnic group. No side is superior to another side. Nigeria will have a transparent and accountable government. This will be a government where every public account can be scrutinised and our funds followed up by our people.

“I disagree with the notion that Nigeria is too complex; that our people are too difficult to govern, that our democracy will not work. I disagree.”

The NIP acting National Chairman, Azeez Oladapo, said the objectives of the party included “finding quality leaders within the age range of 21 to 45 years to entrust with the continued development and sustenance of Nigeria”.

If Heaven Is Where Adeboye, Kumuyi And Others Will Go, Then I Don’t Want To Go There – Facebook User

If Heaven Is Where Adeboye, Kumuyi And Others Will Go, Then I Don’t Want To Go There – Facebook User

Facebook sex therapist, Angela Nwosu has revealed reasons why she might not want to go to heaven.

According to her, heaven is where she believes Adeboye, Kumuyi and other religious leaders will go and it will be a boring place.

Read her post below:

I don’t want to make heaven!

If heaven is where Pastor Adeboye, Kumuyi, David Oyedepo and all other religious leaders and people will go to after death, then I reject it with every fibre of my being. Heaven will sure be a very boring and unbearable place to be in, full of fake people and extortionists and heartless people. I want to be where Fela is and would be happy to see Davido, Wizkid, Tekno, etc, join me there.

The thing about me is I don’t ever want to be like you. You don’t believe that you can live the way that I do. Seriously, you act like life’s a recital from the bible and once you reach the end you won’t know where the time goes. I’m living through my flows so please enjoy the show. No Jesus above tells me how to live my life, I do this for me, am not ashamed, I do not hide. I already have a God that turns me on with reckless abandon. He’s the God that I see and believe in and his name is Emeka.

“The 2019 General Elections Will Cost N242.4bn” – President Buhari

President Buhari has said that the 2019 general elections will be costing about 242.4 billion Naira. The President said this today in a letter sent to the National Assembly, seeking that the funds be drawn from the 2018 and 2019 budgets.

In the letter he explained that implementing a budget of 9.12 trillion Naira for 2018 will be extremely challenging and does not consider it expedient, to increase it to accommodate the funds needed for the 2019 general elections.

According to him, the National Assembly made cuts amounting to N347 billion in the allocations to 4,700 projects submitted to them for consideration and introduced 6,403 projects of their own amounting to N578 billion.

“Many of the projects cut are critical and may be difficult, if not impossible, to implement with the reduced allocation. He has, therefore, asked the National Assembly to transfer the funds appropriated for the new projects which are inserted in the 2018 budget to cover the sum of 228.8 billion Naira for the elections.

This Imam hid 262 Christians in a Mosque during Plateau Killings

It’s easy to focus on how people are divided along tribal and religious lines, but several people are out there who aren’t letting these differences stop them from seeing the humanity in others.

One of them is this imam from the village of Nghar Yelwa in Plateau State, who saved 262 Christians from Fulani Herdsmen on Sunday.

The herdsmen had attacked 3 local governments in the state killing over 100 people, one of them Barkin Ladi, where the people had escaped from.

Sharing his story with BBC Pidgin, the imam said he first took the women, number about 60 to his home, and the men to the mosque to hide.

The herdsmen later accosted him, he shared, and ordered him to give up the Christians. But he lied and told them all the people with him were Muslims.

It’s so refreshing, seeing that some of us are not letting ideologies and religion and tribe divide us. So inspiring.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has asked that Falz remove his video for “This is Nigeria” within 7 days or face legal action.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has asked that Falz remove his video for “This is Nigeria” within 7 days or face legal action.

According to The Cable, the request was made in a statement made by the group’s director, Ishaq Akintola.

The video, upon its release, had Nigerians in a frenzy, with some describing it as genius and others saying it was badly done.

The group has described the video as a “hate video,” complaining that it was biased against the Fulani people and trivializes the plight of the Chibok Girls.

MURIC also asked that Falz make a public apology.

The statement read:

MURIC rejects Falz’ explanation that the girls in hijab in his ‘Shaku Shaku’ dance symbolize the Chibok girls because nothing in the video indicates that the girls represent the Chibok girls.

At least none of the Chibok girls have been seen dancing like a drunkard. They are always in pensive mood. Do they have any cause to be dancing? Are they happy?

The video manifests ethnic bias against Fulanis while it ignored the criminal activities of ethnic militia of the Middle Belt who have also massacred Fulanis and rustled their cattle in their thousands.

It is a hate video. This video has the potential of causing religious crisis of unprecedented dimension.

It is an assault on the self-dignity of every Muslim. It is freedom of expression gone haywire.

We therefore demand its withdrawal and an apology to Nigerian Muslims within seven days or the authors and their agents will face legal action if they fail to comply.

Only the scenes portraying police brutality and the money-swallowing snake in the video are near the truth.

We call the attention of security agencies to this hate action.

We remind Nigerians of the outcome of similar provocative actions in the past and their unpalatable outcomes.

The National Film And Video Censors Board (NFVCB), a regulatory agency set up by Act No. 85 of 1993 to regulate films and the video industry has a case to answer. ‘Shaku Shaku’ video was shot and released under its watch.

Instead of going violent, Nigerian Muslims should take those behind the ‘Shaku Shaku’ video to court in order to serve as a deterrent to others.

We therefore give notice of impending legal action against the artist behind the ‘Shaku Shaku’ video unless the latter is withdrawn and an apology is widely published within seven days.

Buhari LAUNCHES N64MILLION WEBSITE TO BRING GOVERNANCE CLOSER TO NIGERIANS

Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) has launched a new website for his office.

Mustapha unveiled the website — which he said costs N64 million — at his office in Abuja, on Monday. The FG had allocated N65m for the portal in the 2017 budget.

The SGF said the old website was based on an old technology, lacked security features and was not compliant to one of the federal government’s executive order.
“There was a contract in 2017. The figure in public domain.

It is about N64m including procurement of laptops, training, consultancy services,” he said. “The contract was awarded by the Bureau of Public Procurement in accordance with the procurement act.”

Mustapha said the major component of the website is the e-participation platform that allows members of the public to give feedback, request for information from government, submit ideas, and lodge complaints.

He added that the new website is participatory and will “bring governance to the people” and will “add value” to information disseminated to public through some of its features.

The SGF said the N64 million also involves training of 50 officers that will facilitate timely updates and ensure “very robust content management system, procurement of laptops as well as consultancy services.”

The website has links to some documents such as the Freedom of Information Act, 2011. It also has links to some official government websites such as the Federal Road Safety Corps and the National Identity Management Commission.

5 things you should know about the Fulani people (Number 5 will shock you!)

The Fulani people live in many parts of Africa and are spread across almost 20 countries from the west to the east.

5 things you should know about the Fulani people  (trip down memory lane)

The Fulani people are one of the largest ethnic groups in the Sahel and West Africa, widely dispersed across the region.

The Fulani people live in many parts of Africa and are spread across almost 20 countries from the west to the east. Here are 10 things you didn’t know about the Fulani people.

1. Most of them are Muslims

Islam became prominent in West Africa in the 11th century and the Fulani's converted at the time. They have even participated in campaigns over the centuries to convert others.

2. They come from the upper Nile

Historians believe that the Fulani's descended from a nomadic group that once lived in the upper Nile region around 3500 BC. Once the climate of the Sahara became too harsh, they migrated out of the area to find greener pastures.

3. They are the largest nomadic people in the world

Almost all Fulani people are nomadic, making it the largest group of such kind in the world. They live everywhere in Africa and solely rely on their cattles and farming. They carry a mobile house with them known as a bukkaru.

4. They vary

There isn’t one specific way of dressing for all Fulanis thanks to their diversity. In some places, women adorn their hair with shells, cowries or use henna to decorate their hands and feet. But both men and women often have face markings they were given as children.

5. The Fulani language is one of the most widely spoken in Africa

First off, Fulani is an official language in Guinea, Nigeria and Senegal and is spoken in 20 other countries across Africa. It is referred to as Fulfulde and estimated that around 18 million people in Africa speak the language.

Out of those, there are five major dialects, but all have similar grammar and vocabulary.
